RESIN PRESERVATION
the technique behind a.folha

What is resin preservation?
Resin preservation is a botanical technique that protects natural elements — flowers, leaves, mushrooms and other specimens — by encapsulating them in epoxy resin so they retain their colors, textures and structures over time.
At a.folha, this practice unfolds into botanical jewelry, framed compositions, light sculptures and other objects that extend the presence of nature.
How does the process work?
Creating a piece involves multiple steps, all done by hand:
1. Selecting and preparing natural elements
Botanical materials are chosen with care and gathered responsibly. Flowers, leaves and mushrooms are dehydrated to preserve color and structure before going into resin.
Our commitment to nature
We work with deep respect for natural cycles. We do not buy or trade insects; we use only specimens found already lifeless or donated to us. Every piece carries an ethical gesture.
2. Molding and applying epoxy resin
Specimens are positioned in molds and layered with high-quality epoxy resin. The resin cures over several days, ensuring clarity, protection and stability.
3. Sanding and hand polishing
Once cured, each piece undergoes a long sanding process using progressively finer grits to remove imperfections and refine the surface. The final polish brings out clarity, depth and a crystalline shine — it’s where nature reveals its strength.
4. Time, skill and dedication
Depending on complexity, the process can take days or weeks. Resin preservation requires patience, precision and presence.
Small natures, big stories
Owning a piece from a.folha means bringing home more than a decorative object — it means carrying a fragment of nature preserved with intention, respect and care. From gathering to finishing, every step is held with delicacy so the piece can remain singular, affective and enduring.
More than preserving forms, we honor cycles.
What becomes eternal here is not the object alone, but a way of seeing.
